What I've been up to lately

For my doings over the past few months, check out my diary. If you're looking for shock-horror-sex-and-violence I'm afraid you'll find it sadly disappointing...

Forthcoming events

The Poisoned Pen Press Webcon: The first ever mystery convention held over the Internet went really well on Webcon Day, October 24th, but it's not all over yet. Practically everything that happened, the interviews, discussions, presentations and panels, has been archived and is available to browse or download free on www.ppwebcon.com. My two text panels are there, one about historical mysteries and one about cozies (yes, we Brits call them cosies; can I help it if Americans can't spell?) The audio panels are still available too, including mine, on the subject of how much sex and violence there should be .in a mystery. I also threw in my two penn'orth on an audio panel debating whether there should be a new sub-genre, Cosy Thrillers. You can hear them, and many other lively ones too, at BlogTalk Radio,

What I'm Writing now: The fourth Aurelia Marcella mystery, which has the working title ARROWS IN THE DARK. is under way again, having proceeded so slowly earlier this year that you might be forgiven for thinking it had stopped. Not quite, but other things intervened - Life, the Universe, and Everything, including other writing which with luck you'll hear more about later in the year. When I concentrated on Aurelia again I realised my plan to set the story on the northern frontier of Britannia, where Hadrian's wall would one day be built, wasn't working. My sleuth needed to be nearer to her inn, because...well, wait and see. Once having become aware of this, it was easily put right, and the story now takes Aurelia away from home but not so far. She travels north of York to Catterick, where a Roman fort and a small town were well established by 99 AD. She is invited to visit a distant cousin who is married to a senior officer there, ostensibly for a birthday celebration, but there's a more serious agenda too. Julia and her husband are in danger, and when the party is marred by violence, Aurelia realises it's not just personal peril, but a threat that spreads far more widely.

My blog: Every Sunday I post to the Lady Killers blog,  www.theladykillers.typepad.com. There are seven Lady Killers, and we blog about everything from writing to our favourite food, and from the joys (?) of attending mystery conferences to the weather...and we love our visitors to post comments too.
