Published by
Poisoned Pen Press June 2008Welcome to my website, with the news that the third Aurelia Marcella mystery, BURIED TOO DEEP, is now published in Britain and the USA. It's a sequel to GET OUT OR DIE and A BITTER CHILL, and like them, it tells of life (and death) in first-century Roman Britain, the turbulent province of Britannia, on the very edge of the Roman Empire. You don't have to have read either of the earlier books to enjoy the newest story, though of course I rather hope you have, or you will!
This time innkeeper Aurelia has to visit the wold country which lies between her mansio on the road to York, and the North Sea coast to the east. She is trying to discover the cause of vicious feuding between Roman settlers and native farmers which is endangering her sister's family. She and her sister are Roman settlers, but have always tried to live in peace with their neighbours, and are anxious not to take sides in the quarrel. They must also help their brother salvage a valuable government cargo which has been shipwrecked, and this brings them into conflict with outlawed sea-raiders too. Then their family face shocking revelations of past secrets which throw sinister shadows into the present.
